The USDA (agriculture dept) unit on Economic Research Service, http://www.ers.usda.gov/, not only tracks bales of hay grown in Alaska and other states, but more usefully, tracks what is urban and rural.
The most recent (2005) US Census population changes are here complete with a map of the changes. Alaskans are leaving the most rural areas and into the population centers (villages to hubs; hubs to cities)
