I’m using the search function in Adobe Acrobat Reader to search keywords in document SB221_with_vetoes.pdf

Because so little was vetoed, maybe it would have easier for the state to list the vetoed projects?

Some money for long-term care facility planning (YKHC) was signed. (Hooray. It’s another little start on a much needed and long-stalled project)

Unfortunately, all the information is in old school formats–
it is pdf files only. The basic information could be quickly listed in html for easy, rapid viewing (even the press release is in pdf file).

I’ll check when the files download and can be read.

Glenn, it’s too bad that the public involvement process for legislature projects isn’t better organized and run. For example, Bethel has proposed money for the 30-year old firehouse roof (badly needed repairs) and for the Tundra Womens Coalition new building (also badly needed).

However, funding for a swimming pool-community center that only a few in Bethel can afford to use is an example of a project that needs a re-think. Only a very few people voted for a sales tax increase (voters were told it was only a 1 percent increase when in fact it was a 20% increase) to pay for the maintenance of the unbuilt pool. The city must cut essential services now; fuel to run a pool heater is going over $5 a gallon; and the city can’t hire enough police and firefighters now, much less licensed lifeguards.

Dear Governor Palin,
My name is Glenn Howson and I’m a resident of beautiful downtown Mountain View in the Municipality of Anchorage. The 2009 Budget items affecting us were presented by Senator Wielokowski at our last Council meeting.

I agreed with all that were listed with the EXCEPTION OF the 3.5 million that would be earmarked for the CHANLYUT enterprise. They just got a newly remodeled living quarters and they have the Diner on the corner that could, if properly managed, generate funding. I have no idea what the 3.5 million would be spent on, nor have they presented any kind of proposals to the Community Council before trying to get the money from you.

If you must AX items from all the proposals being submitted, I strongly urge you to cut this one first.

Hi Governor Palin, congrajulations on your new baby. God bless your child and thanks for working hard to keep the State of Alaska in great shape. I hope that you help us here in Juneau. I have six children and our three jobs are not enough to buy the clothes because all the money goes on food and gasoline and now aelp is over charging us. Please help us. Thanks again you have my vote and support for the your other 6 years of governor.

Can't guarantee that the Governor reads this blog, but everyone's concerns will be shared here. (the link to email the Governor directly is included above. With a phone card from ATT/Sam's Club, it now costs 5 times (500% more) to telephone than to telephone the governor of New Mexico) Electricity rates for Juneau and some parts of the Unorganized Borough are here-- Electricity disaster declarations in Alaska Energy use and waste is a problem for the entire state, but there is no statewide effort at self-sufficiency and sustainability. Based on history, a new gas-line won't help but a few. Maybe that is why the energy czar for the governor is looking for local untapped energy sources for off-road communities rather than a communitas or commonweal solution. I am sure you’re hearing of the unsatisfied residents of Juneau in regards to your lack of help for us. Why are you not doing more? Why aren’t you in Juneau, where the problem is, and coming up with a resolution??? We all voted for you for a reason, and now feel you’ve turned you backs on us. Would it make a difference if you had family living here? Would that change your mind about getting disaster relief?

I think the Gov. Is a very vindictive person. She is showing her dislike for the people of Juneau by not giving financial relief to us due to the disaster of our transmision line

Dear Governor,
I am writing this letter because I want to express my feelings on the condition of our roads here in Anchorage. The main roads I am talking about are the ones further up the slopes were most people live. These roads are constantly iceing over during the winter and it is a hastle for the plows to have to go over them twice a day I think getting some of them paid will help with plowing issues in a way that will help them to get less ice. I hope you think about this letter!

Our Dear Governor,
I write today, with what I think is a pretty good Idea.
I just got through watching the evening news, and was angered over the Exxon repersenitive, who said that the gas piprline is not financial vaiable for them. We our still waiting to receive the court ordered payment from them for their huge spill years ago.
I suggest, we cut all these fat cat oil companies out of the deal, and build it ourselfs. Use the PFD fund to build the line, and then put the money back in the fund with the profits. You can have the citizens vote on it, if you have too. It’s just a suggestion. I think you are doing a great job for the state. Thanks M P. S. Anchorge

Hi. I’m going to let Governor Palin know on her webpage that you wished to write to her. The actual link to her E-mail is in the post, but I will make it clearer. Web logs and the Internet in general are not as easy to use as the more experienced think. It’s really difficult to write for the Internet so the software knows what to do and the human knows what to do. Computers are really stupid whereas people aren’t.

(I only wish I had the Governor’s ear for science, technology, elders, health, safety, environment in the Unorganized Borough).
